Tips & Tricks on how to crack Engineering Entrance Exams

In India, engineering is considered one of the primary career options which promise a secure future and a sound lifestyle. Despite all the memes trending on social media about the condition of engineering students, it still happens to be one of the career paths most walked on. One of the major reasons is that India is a developing country that needs a great number of engineers and technologists to gain a faster pace in economic, technological and infrastructural development which are seen as the symbols of development for any country worldwide. The government of India is very keen to encourage its youth to choose this field which can be seen through the policies and the increasing number of engineering colleges in India.

The HRD ministry of India has released “India’s ranking report 2016” which lists top colleges for engineering, pharmacy, management etc. The top 10 Engineering colleges include:

1. IIT Madras
2. IIT Bombay
3. IIT Delhi
4. IIT Kharagpur
5. IIT Kanpur
6. IIT Roorkee
7. IIT Hyderabad
8. IIT Gandhinagar
9. IIT Ropar
10. IIT Patna

It does not come as a shock that the top 10 positions are acquired by IITs, as it is a well known fact that IITs are the most prestigious institutions to study engineering from. And to get into these institutions, one has to take the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE).

JEE is an all India common engineering entrance examination of objective pattern which is conducted for admission in various engineering colleges and courses all over the country. It is regarded internationally as one of the most challenging engineering admission tests and every year, about 200 to 300 thousand students selected every year the examination.

IIT JEE is a 2 phase examination which includes JEE Main (first stage) and JEE Advanced (final stage). Both the stages are equally difficult to clear but

Simple habits you can adopt to crack the exam:
1.You should set a daily target and try to achieve it. This will help you complete the syllabus in time and to be organised while preparing for the exam.
2. Bifurcate the syllabus and allot a set no. of days to complete it in a way that you get enough time to revise the syllabus before the exam.
3. Keep taking mock tests while preparing. This will give you an idea about how much you’ve actually gained from the previous studies and what all you still need to work on.
4. Try to get enough sleep before the exam so as to be more alert and perform better.
5. Most importantly, try to stay motivated throughout the preparation duration and keep focusing on your aim instead of getting carried away by any kind of negative comments or thoughts from outside or within

Tips & Tricks on how to crack AIEEE 2017

It’s that time of the year when students get anxiety attacks owing to the hefty study schedule. AIEEE 2017 is just around the corner and engineering aspirants must know the keys to crack the coveted exam and get a good rank, which will assure them of a seat in renowned institutions. So, what all things should a student do to get pass this enormous hurdle.

  1. First and foremost the key to cracking AIEEE is smart work with a killer instinct, as you have to beat others in a ‘game of ranks’.
  2. One should divide the subject matter and prepare according to the priority each topic is given. This is important as AIEEE exam follows a pattern that gives more weight-age to topics like organic chemistry in chemistry and integration in mathematics. Thus, it is important to focus on the crux.
  3. Moreover speed is the key, the faster one thinks and then solves, the better it is; one can do chemistry questions quickly and devote the extra time for tricky questions in physics and maths section.
  4. To solve chemistry questions quickly one needs to be absolutely clear with their concepts as chemistry all about concepts anything that is vague will cost you dearly.
  5. Physics is where one needs on the spot thinking as well as quick maths or putting it in other words one need to multi-task.

Past 5 years physics questions have focused heavily on Electromagnetism, so this has to be on the tips. Moving on Maths is the section which most students find difficult and there is a lot of time that needs to be devoted to get a desired score in this section. Integration and differentiation need a lot of repetitive practice which can’t be jumped.

Also, it is an uphill task to cover both 11th and 12th standard topics together, which calls in for some time distribution so that nothing is left unchecked. Advice is to practice from different books so that one gets a feel for all types of questions beforehand. Solving tricky questions from an array of books will provide ample practice and prepare you for the hurdles that are bound to surface in the final test.

Lastly enrol for a test series from a good coaching institute so you can access your preparation and also you’re standing amongst the masses. One can also do mock tests to review you speed and manage time accordingly. All in all preparation is only half of the work; execution on the D-day is what is required. For this I suggest mind exercises and yoga to increase concentration power and reduce those damned ‘anxiety attacks’.
